Pieris japonica 'Little Heath' is a compact, slow-growing evergreen shrub prized for its finely variegated foliage and elegant spring flowers. Growing Guide
Plant in a sheltered position in acidic, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Partial shade is ideal, although it will also grow in full sun provided the soil does not dry out. Incorporate ericaceous compost when planting if your garden soil is neutral or alkaline, and use an ericaceous fertiliser in spring.
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly while establishing and when grown in containers. Apply a mulch each spring to help conserve moisture and maintain soil conditions.
Pruning
Little pruning is required. Remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches after flowering and lightly trim if needed to maintain its naturally compact shape.
Wildlife
The spring flowers provide an early source of nectar for bees and other pollinating insects.
