Overview

Pilea peperomioides, commonly known as the Chinese Money Plant or Pancake Plant, is a much-loved indoor foliage plant recognised for its perfectly rounded green leaves held on slender upright stems. Its clean, minimalist shape makes it equally at home in contemporary and traditional interiors.

As the plant matures, it often produces small offsets around the base, allowing it to develop into a fuller specimen or providing an opportunity to propagate new plants. Its compact growth makes it ideal for shelves, desks, windowsills and plant displays.

Place in bright, indirect light, avoiding prolonged strong midday sun, which can scorch the foliage. Rotate the pot every few weeks to encourage even growth, as the leaves naturally turn towards the light.

Water when the top few centimetres of compost have dried out, allowing excess water to drain away freely. Reduce watering during the winter months when growth slows. Feed occasionally during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertiliser.
