Pilea peperomioides

P12 Pot

Plant Highlights: Distinctive round coin-shaped leaves • Compact, upright habit • Easy to grow in bright indoor spaces • Produces offsets that can be propagated into new plants

Overview

Pilea peperomioides, commonly known as the Chinese Money Plant, is a much-loved houseplant recognised for its perfectly rounded green leaves held on long, slender stems. Its clean, architectural form suits both modern and traditional interiors, while its compact size makes it ideal for shelves, desks and windowsills.

Supplied in a P12 pot, this easy-going indoor plant grows best in bright, indirect light and is well suited to everyday home conditions. Mature plants often produce small offsets, or 'pups', around the base, which can be carefully separated and grown into new plants.

Growing Guide

Position

Place in a bright position with plenty of indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun is usually well tolerated, but strong midday sun can scorch the leaves. Rotate the pot every few weeks to encourage even growth.

Watering

Allow the surface of the compost to dry slightly before watering thoroughly. Empty any excess water from the saucer or cachepot, as consistently wet compost can lead to root problems.

Feeding

Feed monthly with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer. Little or no feeding is needed during the winter months when growth naturally slows.

Indoor Placement

A great choice for bright living rooms, home offices, bedrooms and kitchens with good natural light. Keep away from cold draughts and avoid placing directly beside radiators or other heat sources.

Why We Love It

  • The distinctive circular leaves create a fresh, contemporary look.
  • Compact growth makes it ideal for smaller spaces and shelves.
  • Readily produces offsets that can be propagated and shared.
  • A rewarding houseplant for both beginners and experienced indoor gardeners.

Good to Know

Dust the leaves occasionally with a soft, damp cloth to keep them looking their best and to help the plant make the most of available light.
