Primula vialii
2 Litre Pot
Plant Highlights: Distinctive red and violet flower spikes • Long summer display • Thrives in reliably moist soil • Excellent for pollinators and waterside planting
Primula vialii, commonly known as Orchid Primrose, is an unusual herbaceous perennial admired for its striking two-tone flower spikes. Deep red flower buds emerge first before opening from the base upwards into vivid violet-purple blooms, creating a colourful, torch-like effect throughout summer.
Unlike many primroses that flower in spring, Primula vialii comes into bloom in mid to late summer, bringing fresh colour to damp borders, woodland gardens and pond margins. Its upright flower spikes rise above attractive rosettes of green foliage, making it a distinctive feature in naturalistic and cottage-style planting schemes.

Grow in full sun where the soil remains consistently moist, or in partial shade, particularly in warmer or more exposed gardens. It is especially well suited to pond edges, damp borders and woodland gardens.
Keep the soil evenly moist throughout the growing season. Do not allow the soil to dry out completely, especially during warm weather or if grown in a container.
Plant in fertile, humus-rich soil that retains moisture while remaining well drained. Incorporating organic matter before planting will help maintain consistent soil moisture.
Remove spent flower spikes once flowering has finished if desired. Tidy away dead foliage after it dies back in autumn or leave it until late winter to provide some protection for the crown.
The colourful summer flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects, providing a valuable nectar source later in the season.
