One of the most popular Japanese flowering cherry trees, Prunus 'Kanzan' is loaded with blousy, pink, double flowers with frilly edges from March-April. The pink blossom has a hint of purple to it and is followed by the unfurling of bronze coloured new leaves. The foliage turns mid-green, before adopting burnt orange colours in autumn.
Prunus 'Kanzan', also called 'Sekiyama', has a slowly spreading habit and looks equally magnificent planted in avenues or grown as a single specimen. A medium sized ornamental Cherry Blossom tree, it will grow to an estimated 6 x 4 metres in 20 years. It is suited to most positions including polluted sites, but does require a spot that avoids very wet or shallow, chalky soil.
