Overview

Pulmonaria 'Majesté' is an outstanding perennial grown as much for its elegant foliage as its flowers. Its long, narrow leaves are almost entirely silver with delicate green edging, creating a bright, eye-catching display that remains attractive long after flowering has finished.

In early to mid-spring, clusters of tubular flowers open in shades of pink before gradually maturing to rich violet-blue, adding welcome colour to shaded areas when little else is in bloom. This clump-forming perennial is an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders and beneath deciduous trees, where it gradually forms an attractive carpet of foliage.

Growing Guide

Position

Plant in partial or full shade where the soil remains cool and evenly moist. It is particularly well suited to woodland settings and the front of shaded borders.

Watering

Water regularly during establishment and in prolonged dry weather. Although established plants tolerate short dry spells, they perform best in consistently moist soil.

Soil

Grow in fertile, humus-rich soil with good drainage. Incorporating compost or leaf mould before planting will help retain moisture and encourage healthy growth.

Pruning

Remove faded flower stems after blooming and trim away any damaged or tired foliage to encourage fresh new leaves. Cut back old foliage in late winter before new growth emerges if required.
