About this product

Rosa rugosa Mix – Mixed Rugosa Rose Selection (3 Litre Square Pot)

Plant Highlights: Mixed selection of rugged shrub roses • Highly fragrant flowers • Attractive rose hips for autumn interest • Excellent for informal hedging and coastal gardens • Valuable for pollinating insects and birds

Overview

Rosa rugosa Mix is a mixed selection of rugosa roses, valued for their richly scented flowers, textured foliage and colourful rose hips that provide interest long after flowering has finished. As this is a mixed product, individual plants may vary in flower colour and other ornamental characteristics, but all share the robust nature and seasonal appeal typical of Rosa rugosa.

Supplied in a 3 litre square pot, these deciduous shrubs are ideal for informal hedges, wildlife gardens, coastal planting and mixed shrub borders. Their dense, thorny growth provides excellent structure while the flowers and hips extend seasonal interest from summer into autumn.

Growing Guide

Plant in a sunny position with well-drained soil. Rugosa roses are adaptable and establish well in a wide range of garden soils. Water regularly during the first growing season and during prolonged dry spells while plants become established.

Apply a mulch in spring to help retain moisture and improve soil structure. Once established, these shrubs require relatively little attention and are well suited to exposed gardens.

Wildlife

The open flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. After flowering, the rose hips provide a valuable food source for birds during autumn and winter, while the dense, thorny branches offer shelter and nesting sites.

Pruning

Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to remove dead, damaged or overcrowded stems and maintain a healthy framework. Older shrubs can be rejuvenated by removing a proportion of the oldest stems at the base.

Why We Love It

Rosa rugosa combines fragrant flowers with attractive hips and excellent resilience, making it a dependable choice for both ornamental and wildlife-friendly planting. Its naturally robust habit makes it particularly useful where a durable, informal shrub is needed.
