Place in bright, indirect light for the best foliage colour and vigorous growth. It will tolerate moderate light levels but should be protected from prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry before watering thoroughly. Empty excess water from decorative pots or saucers and reduce watering slightly during winter when growth naturally slows.
Grow in a free-draining houseplant compost in a pot with drainage holes. Repot when roots become crowded, and provide a moss pole or support if a climbing habit is desired.
Maintain temperatures between 18–27°C and protect from cold draughts and temperatures below 15°C. Higher humidity encourages larger, healthier foliage, although the plant adapts well to normal household conditions.
Feed monthly with a balanced houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer. Wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust and trim overly long stems to encourage fuller, bushier growth. Stem cuttings root readily if propagation is desired.
The amount of silver variegation varies naturally from leaf to leaf, giving each plant its own unique appearance. Growing the plant up a moss pole or other support often encourages the development of larger, more dramatic foliage.
