Overview

Scindapsus pictus 'Trebie', commonly known as Satin Pothos or Silver Vine, is a striking tropical houseplant grown for its large, heart-shaped leaves generously splashed with shimmering silver variegation. The velvety foliage catches the light beautifully, making it a standout feature in any indoor plant collection.

Its adaptable nature and relatively easy care make it an excellent choice for both experienced plant enthusiasts and those new to indoor gardening.

Growing Guide

Position

Place in bright, indirect light for the best foliage colour and vigorous growth. It will tolerate moderate light levels but should be protected from prolonged direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

Allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry before watering thoroughly. Empty excess water from decorative pots or saucers and reduce watering slightly during winter when growth naturally slows.

Compost

Grow in a free-draining houseplant compost in a pot with drainage holes. Repot when roots become crowded, and provide a moss pole or support if a climbing habit is desired.

Temperature and Humidity

Maintain temperatures between 18–27°C and protect from cold draughts and temperatures below 15°C. Higher humidity encourages larger, healthier foliage, although the plant adapts well to normal household conditions.

Routine Care

Feed monthly with a balanced houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer. Wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust and trim overly long stems to encourage fuller, bushier growth. Stem cuttings root readily if propagation is desired.

Perfect For

  • Shelves and bookcases.
  • Hanging planters.
  • Moss poles and indoor plant supports.
  • Home offices and living rooms.
  • Tropical houseplant collections.

Good to Know

The amount of silver variegation varies naturally from leaf to leaf, giving each plant its own unique appearance. Growing the plant up a moss pole or other support often encourages the development of larger, more dramatic foliage.
