Growing Guide

Position

Plant in a sunny, open position where it receives plenty of direct sunlight. It performs best in rockeries, gravel gardens, alpine troughs and raised beds with excellent drainage.

Watering

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, this succulent is highly drought tolerant and only requires watering during prolonged dry periods. Avoid excessive watering, particularly in winter.

Soil

Grow in sharply drained soil. Sandy, gritty or gravelly soils are ideal, and adding horticultural grit to heavier soils will improve drainage and help prevent winter wet around the roots.

Hardiness and Winter Care

Fully hardy throughout Ireland provided drainage is excellent. Prolonged winter waterlogging is more damaging than cold temperatures, so avoid planting in poorly drained sites.

Routine Care

Remove faded flower stems once blooming has finished to keep the plant tidy. Divide or replant spreading clumps every few years if required to maintain vigour or extend planting.
