About this product

Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound' – supplied in a 7.5-litre container, approximately 40–50 cm tall

Plant Highlights: Masses of pure white flowers • Gracefully arching branches • Reliable spring display • Easy-to-grow deciduous shrub

Overview

Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound' is a deciduous shrub renowned for its spectacular display of pure white flowers in late spring to early summer. The blooms are produced in dense clusters that line the gracefully arching branches, creating the appearance of cascading drifts of snow and giving the plant its distinctive name.

Fresh green foliage provides a neat backdrop throughout the growing season before turning attractive shades of yellow in autumn. Its naturally rounded, arching habit makes it an excellent choice for mixed shrub borders, cottage gardens and informal planting schemes.

Growing Guide

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. The best flowering is usually achieved in a sunny position, although it will also perform well with light shade.

Water regularly during the first growing season while establishing. Once established, it is relatively easy to care for, requiring additional watering only during prolonged dry periods. Apply a mulch of organic matter in spring to help retain moisture and improve soil condition.

Pruning

Prune immediately after flowering by removing spent flowering stems and thinning out a proportion of the oldest branches. This encourages vigorous new growth and ensures the best flowering display the following year.

Wildlife

The abundant flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects, making this shrub a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
