Strelitzia nicolai, commonly known as the Giant White Bird of Paradise, is a spectacular indoor foliage plant grown for its impressive, banana-like leaves and strong architectural presence. Indoor Placement

Light

Position in a bright room with plenty of natural light. It thrives in bright, indirect light and can tolerate some gentle morning or late afternoon sun. Insufficient light may slow growth and reduce leaf size.

Temperature

Grow in a warm room with consistent temperatures, away from cold draughts and sudden changes in temperature.

Watering

Water when the top few centimetres of compost begin to dry. Reduce watering during the darker winter months when growth naturally slows, and always allow excess water to drain away freely.

Humidity

Average household humidity is generally suitable, although occasional misting or a more humid environment can help keep the foliage looking its best, particularly during the heating season.

Growing Guide

Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser during the growing season to encourage healthy new growth. Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust, allowing the plant to make the most of available light. Repot only when the roots begin to fill the container, as established plants appreciate being slightly pot-bound.
