Syringa meyeri ‘Palibin’
C6 Stem Form
Plant Highlights: Fragrant spring flowers • Compact lilac habit • Suitable for smaller gardens • Good for borders and containers
A compact lilac with a naturally neat habit, Syringa meyeri ‘Palibin’ brings clusters of sweetly scented lilac-pink flowers to the garden in late spring. Unlike many larger lilacs, this selection stays relatively compact, making it a useful choice where space is limited but the charm of traditional lilac blossom is still wanted.
The rounded growth habit, attractive green foliage and seasonal flower display make it well suited to mixed borders, patio areas and larger containers. As a stem-trained form, it also creates a clear focal point, with the flowering canopy held above the main stem for a more structured appearance.

Choose a sunny position for the best flowering display, although it will tolerate some light shade. A sheltered site helps protect the flowering shoots from harsh winds and allows the scent of the blooms to be enjoyed.
Water regularly while establishing, especially when grown in a container. Once established in the ground, water during prolonged dry periods and take extra care that containers do not dry out completely during warmer weather.
Plant in fertile soil that drains freely. Good drainage is particularly important in heavier Irish soils, where winter wet can affect the roots of woody plants.
Remove faded flower heads after flowering if desired to keep the plant tidy and encourage a well-shaped appearance. Avoid heavy pruning unless necessary, as lilacs flower on established wood.
Stem-trained plants offer a different style of display from a traditional bush form, with flowers held above the main stem to create a more elevated feature for patios, entrances or borders.
