About this product

Trachelospermum jasminoides

3 Litre Pot – Approximately 130cm

Plant Highlights: Evergreen climbing foliage • Fragrant summer flowers • Long season of garden structure • Suitable for walls and containers

Overview

Trachelospermum jasminoides, known as star jasmine, is a popular evergreen climber grown for its glossy foliage, sweetly scented white flowers and ability to provide year-round cover. With its naturally twining habit, it can be trained across walls, fences, trellis or other supports to create a dense green backdrop in a sheltered garden position.

During summer, clusters of small star-shaped flowers appear among the dark green leaves, releasing their fragrance most strongly in warm weather. The evergreen foliage keeps its structure through the quieter months, making this a useful choice where a climber needs to provide interest beyond its flowering season.

  • Fragrant white summer flowers add seasonal appeal
  • Evergreen leaves provide year-round garden structure
  • Useful for covering walls, fences and supports
  • Can be grown in a large container with suitable care

Growing Guide

Position

Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position with shelter from cold winds. A warm wall or protected boundary can help encourage stronger growth and flowering, particularly in exposed Irish gardens.

Watering

Water regularly while the plant establishes. Once established, water during prolonged dry periods, with container-grown plants needing more frequent checks as compost can dry out faster in warm weather.

Soil

Plant in fertile soil that drains freely. Avoid areas that remain waterlogged through winter, as consistently wet roots can affect evergreen climbers.

Support and Training

Provide a suitable support such as a trellis, wires or framework and guide new growth as it develops. Light pruning after flowering can help maintain shape and keep the plant within its allocated space.

Seasonal Care

In colder or exposed locations, choose the most sheltered position available and protect the root area of container-grown plants during periods of severe winter weather.
