Overview

Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum 'Kilimandjaro Sunrise' is an elegant deciduous shrub renowned for its distinctive layered branching and spectacular spring display. Masses of lacecap-style white flowers are carried along the horizontal branches, gradually taking on soft pink tones as they mature, creating a long-lasting and changing display.

Supplied in a 20 litre pot at approximately 175–200 cm tall, this well-established specimen makes an outstanding focal point in mixed borders or woodland-style planting. Growing Guide

Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Water regularly during the establishment period and during extended dry spells, particularly in the first few growing seasons.

Apply a mulch of garden compost or well-rotted organic matter in spring to help retain moisture and improve soil structure.

Wildlife

The flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects. Where fruits develop, they provide a seasonal food source for birds.

Pruning

Pruning is rarely needed beyond removing dead, damaged or crossing branches. If shaping is required, prune lightly after flowering to preserve the following year's flower buds.

Why We Love It

'Kilimandjaro Sunrise' offers interest through several seasons, from its elegant layered framework and abundant spring flowers to colourful berries and outstanding autumn foliage. Its graceful habit makes it an exceptional feature shrub for gardens where it has space to shine.
