Overview
The common walnut is a majestic, long-lived tree that eventually forms a broad crown and provides generous shade. As well as producing tasty nuts, it offers strong architectural presence and attractive, pinnate foliage.

How to Plant
Plant in Deep, fertile, well-drained soil; avoid shallow, waterlogged ground. in a position with Full sun in an open position.. Dig a generous planting hole, mix in organic matter, and water thoroughly after planting. Apply a mulch around the base to help conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
Care Tips
- Water well during the first few years, particularly in dry summers.
- Prune only lightly and in mid-summer to avoid bleeding.
- Allow plenty of space away from buildings and smaller trees.
Size & Growth Timeline
Can reach 4–5m tall within the first 5–7 years, and much larger at full maturity over several decades.
Harvest
Nuts ripen in early to mid-autumn. Collect them from the ground as they fall, then dry and store under cover.
