Overview

Westland Ericaceous Specialist Planting Mix 10L is a specialist compost for ericaceous, lime-hating plants that need acidic growing conditions. Ideal for favourites such as rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias, it provides a carefully formulated growing medium for potting and planting out.

The mix provides up to six months of slow-release nutrition to support healthy roots, sustained growth and vibrant flowering. Slow-release iron helps maintain the acidic root environment these plants require while supporting chlorophyll production for greener, glossier foliage. An added zinc complex supports plant resilience, root and shoot growth, photosynthesis and the movement of water and nutrients through the plant.

Product Details

How to Use

Before Use

Rework the compost between your hands before planting to allow it to regain its intended texture.

Potting

Water the plant thoroughly, then gently tap its existing pot to release the root ball. Shake away loose compost.

Half-fill the new container with Westland Ericaceous Specialist Planting Mix, position the plant and fill around the root ball with more mix. Gently firm into place and water thoroughly.

Planting Out

Dig a hole approximately twice the depth and diameter of the plant's root ball.

Position the plant in the hole with fresh ericaceous planting mix around the roots. Fill the remaining gaps, gently firm the plant into position and water thoroughly.

Aftercare

The mix supplies up to six months of slow-release nutrition. If plants subsequently appear pale or the leaves become yellow, apply a suitable supplementary feed for ericaceous plants.

Deadhead spent flowers where appropriate to direct more of the plant's energy towards continued growth and flowering.

The added slow-release iron helps maintain the optimum acidic root environment required by ericaceous plants. It also supports chlorophyll production, encouraging greener and glossier foliage.

Zinc Complex

Westland confirms that the mix is suitable for acid-loving fruit such as blueberries, but it is not suitable for houseplants.

The 10L pouch is part of the current Westland Ericaceous Specialist Planting Mix range, alongside larger 25L and 46L packs.
