Overview
Wisteria floribunda Alba is a statement wisteria chosen for cascading racemes and unforgettable spring fragrance. Wisterias are long-lived, architectural climbers that become more magnificent with age when trained carefully over strong pergolas, arches or wall-mounted wires.
Flowers & Features
White Japanese wisteria with long, cascading racemes and a refined, luminous spring display. Flowers typically appear in late spring/early summer (timing varies by species and site). After flowering, attractive seed pods may form.
Best Position
- Full sun for best flowering; a warm, sheltered aspect is ideal
- Deep, fertile, well-drained soil improved with organic matter
- Provide very strong support—mature wisteria becomes heavy and woody
How to Plant
Plant in a generous hole with added organic matter. Water thoroughly and mulch. When planting near walls, set the plant slightly away from the base to avoid the driest rain shadow and to allow good root run.
Pruning & Training
For reliable flowering, prune twice yearly and train to a clear framework:
- Summer: shorten long whippy shoots to help form flowering spurs
- Winter: shorten again to a few buds to concentrate energy into bloom
- Tie in selected leaders to build the desired structure
Perfect For…
- Pergolas, archways and sunny house walls
- Creating a high-end focal point with scent and drama
- Gardeners who enjoy training and long-term plant artistry
