Growing Guide
Position
Plant in full sun for the best flowering, although light partial shade is tolerated. Choose a sheltered location with a sturdy support such as a pergola, arch, fence or wall.
Soil
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid sites that remain wet during winter.
Watering
Water regularly during the establishment period. Once established, water during prolonged dry spells, particularly in the first few years after planting.
Pruning
Prune twice each year to encourage flowering and maintain a tidy framework. Shorten long, whippy shoots in summer and prune again in late winter to develop flowering spurs.
Wildlife
The fragrant flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects, making this an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.
