Overview

Wisteria macrostachya 'Clara Mack' is a beautiful selection of Kentucky Wisteria, producing graceful cascades of pure white, lightly fragrant flowers in early to mid-summer. Flowering later than many Asian wisterias, it brings fresh colour and fragrance to the garden after the main spring display has passed. This deciduous climber develops twining stems clothed in fresh green foliage, making it an excellent choice for training over pergolas, arches, fences and sturdy trellises. As it matures, it forms a striking architectural feature with reliable seasonal interest.

Why We Love It

Flowering later than many Asian wisterias, 'Clara Mack' extends seasonal blooms with graceful cascades of pure white, lightly fragrant racemes set against fresh green foliage.

Growing Guide

Positioning & Support Plant in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in a sunny position for the best flowering, although partial shade is also suitable. Provide a strong support such as a pergola, wall wires or a substantial trellis, and tie in young shoots as they develop.
Watering Water regularly during the first growing season while establishing. Once established, water only during prolonged dry spells.
Feeding & Care Applying a balanced fertiliser in spring and mulching with organic matter helps support healthy growth.
Pruning Prune twice each year to maintain shape and encourage flowering. Shorten long, whippy shoots in summer after flowering, then reduce them again in late winter to help promote the formation of flowering spurs.
