Plant Highlights: Professionally trained espalier • Spectacular spring flower display • Elegant twining climber • Architectural garden feature • Long-lived specimen plant
Overview
This professionally trained Wisteria sinensis espalier is supplied as a mixed selection of flower colours, offering the graceful beauty of Chinese Wisteria in a ready-shaped architectural form. Trained onto a robust 120 × 80cm framework, each plant develops elegant twining stems, fresh green deciduous foliage and cascading flower racemes in spring. As this is a mixed assortment, the flower colour varies between individual plants while all share the same vigorous growth habit and care requirements.
Ideal for creating instant impact against a sunny wall, fence or as a freestanding feature, this espalier combines ornamental beauty with formal structure. With regular pruning, it will maintain its elegant framework while producing increasingly impressive floral displays as the plant matures.

Growing Guide
Position
Plant in a warm, sunny, sheltered position where the espalier framework receives plenty of direct sunlight. A south- or west-facing wall or fence provides the ideal conditions for reliable flowering.
Watering
Water regularly during the first growing season while the plant establishes. Once established, water during prolonged dry spells, particularly if grown in a container.
Soil
Grow in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid planting in areas prone to winter waterlogging.
Hardiness and Winter Care
Suitable for outdoor cultivation throughout Ireland. Established plants are very hardy, but flower buds may be damaged by late spring frosts in exposed locations. A sheltered planting position helps encourage more reliable flowering.
Pruning and Training
Prune twice each year to maintain the espalier shape and encourage flowering. Shorten the current season's long shoots in mid to late summer, then prune these back again in late winter to two or three buds. Tie in new shoots as required and remove any growth extending beyond the trained framework.
Perfect For
- Sunny walls and garden fences.
- Courtyards and formal gardens.
- Architectural feature planting.
- Large patio containers.
- Creating elegant vertical structure.
Good to Know
This product is supplied as a mixed selection of Wisteria sinensis. Flower colour and some flowering characteristics vary between individual plants. Wisterias often flower more abundantly as they mature, particularly when grown in full sun and pruned correctly.
