Growing Guide
Position
Plant in full sun for the most reliable flowering, although light partial shade is tolerated. Provide a strong support such as a pergola, arch, fence or wall, as mature plants become substantial over time.
Soil
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid waterlogged sites, particularly during winter.
Watering
Water regularly during the establishment period. Once established, additional watering is generally only needed during prolonged dry spells.
Pruning
Prune twice each year to encourage prolific flowering and maintain a tidy framework. Shorten the current season's long shoots in summer, then prune again in late winter to develop flowering spurs.
Wildlife
The fragrant flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects, making this an excellent addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
