Overview

‘Blue Dessert®’ is a dessert-quality blueberry bred for large, sweet berries with an excellent fresh flavour. It forms an attractive shrub with white spring blossom and good autumn colour.

How to Plant

Plant in Acidic soil or ericaceous compost with a pH between 4.0 and 5.5. in a position with Full sun or light shade; full sun gives the sweetest fruit.. Dig a generous planting hole, mix in organic matter, and water thoroughly after planting. Apply a mulch around the base to help conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

Care Tips

• Grow in a large container or bed filled with ericaceous compost.
• Water with rainwater where possible to maintain acidity.
• Feed with an ericaceous fertiliser in spring and again in early summer.
• Prune lightly after year three, removing a few older stems at the base.

Forms a bush about 1.2–1.5m tall and wide within 4–5 years.

Harvest

Berries ripen from mid- to late summer and can be picked over several weeks as they colour and sweeten.
