Monstera obliqua – Obliqua Monstera (P12 Pot)

Plant Highlights: Exceptionally delicate, highly fenestrated foliage • Rare botanical species • Naturally climbing growth habit • Thrives in warm, humid conditions • A prized plant for experienced collectors

Overview

Monstera obliqua is one of the rarest and most distinctive members of the Monstera genus. Unlike the commonly cultivated species often mistaken for it, the true Monstera obliqua is characterised by remarkably thin, delicate leaves with extensive natural fenestrations, where the openings can occupy much of the leaf surface.

Supplied in a P12 pot, this unusual species is best suited to experienced houseplant enthusiasts who can provide the warm, humid conditions it requires. Its slender climbing stems naturally grow through surrounding vegetation in its native tropical rainforest, making it well suited to moss poles or other vertical supports indoors.

Growing Guide

Place in bright, indirect light and avoid prolonged direct sun, which can damage the delicate foliage. Maintain consistently warm conditions and high humidity, as dry indoor air can cause leaf edges to brown and may affect healthy growth.

Water when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, keeping the compost lightly moist but never waterlogged. An open, airy aroid mix that drains freely while retaining some moisture is ideal.

Providing a moss pole or other climbing support encourages healthier growth and allows the plant to develop larger, more mature foliage over time.

Indoor Placement

Best suited to bright living rooms, plant cabinets, heated conservatories or naturally humid bathrooms with good natural light. It performs particularly well in environments where humidity remains consistently high.

Why We Love It

The true Monstera obliqua is unlike almost any other houseplant. Its incredibly delicate, lace-like foliage gives it an extraordinary appearance that has made it one of the most sought-after species among serious aroid collectors.

Product Information

  • Supplied in a P12 pot.
  • Rare evergreen climbing houseplant.
  • Exceptionally delicate, highly fenestrated foliage.
  • Suitable for climbing supports or moss poles.
  • Best grown in bright, indirect light with high humidity and free-draining aroid compost.

Good to Know: The P12 pot refers to the container size at the time of sale and not the mature size of the plant. Monstera obliqua requires consistently high humidity and stable indoor conditions to perform well, making it more demanding than many commonly grown Monstera species. It should not be confused with Monstera adansonii, which is far more widely available and considerably easier to grow.
