Growing Guide
Position
Place in bright, indirect light and protect from strong direct sunshine, which can scorch the leaves and flowers. Keep away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
Watering
Water when the top layer of compost begins to dry, allowing excess water to drain away freely. Never leave the pot standing in water.
Humidity and Compost
Grow in a free-draining houseplant compost. Anthuriums appreciate moderate to high humidity, so occasional misting or placing the pot on a tray of damp pebbles can help maintain healthy growth.
Temperature
Maintain a warm indoor environment, ideally between 18–24°C, and avoid temperatures below 15°C.
Routine Care
Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser during the growing season to encourage repeat flowering. Remove faded flowers and any damaged leaves to keep the plant looking its best.
Perfect For
- Bright living rooms.
- Home offices and workspaces.
- Conservatories.
- Naturally lit kitchens.
- Compact indoor plant displays.
Good to Know
Although admired for its colourful blooms, the flowers are specialised leaf-like spathes surrounding the central flowering spike (spadix). Anthurium should always be positioned where children and pets cannot chew the leaves or flowers, and gloves are recommended if handling the sap causes skin sensitivity.
