Overview
Asparagus setaceus, commonly known as Asparagus Fern or Lace Fern, is an elegant evergreen houseplant grown for its delicate, airy foliage. Despite its common name, it is not a true fern but produces fine, feathery stems that create a light, graceful appearance.
Its soft texture contrasts beautifully with broad-leaved houseplants, making it an excellent addition to mixed indoor displays. Compact when young, it develops gently arching stems as it matures, making it equally attractive on shelves, plant stands or in hanging pots.

Growing Guide
Place in bright, indirect light, although it will tolerate light shade. Keep the compost evenly moist during active growth, allowing the surface to dry slightly before watering again. Avoid leaving the pot sitting in water, as excessively wet compost can damage the roots.
This plant appreciates higher humidity, making it well suited to bathrooms with natural light or other humid indoor environments. Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser during the growing season according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Indoor Placement
Asparagus setaceus thrives in bright rooms away from prolonged direct sunshine. Bathrooms with natural daylight are ideal due to the increased humidity, while living rooms and offices also provide suitable conditions if the plant is protected from dry heat and cold draughts.
Good to Know
Older plants may develop small thorns on their stems, so take care when handling or pruning. Trim away any yellowing or ageing stems at the base to encourage fresh, healthy growth and maintain a tidy appearance.
