Begonia 'Cracklin Rosie' – Supplied in a P12 Pot

Plant Highlights: Dark bronze foliage with pink spotting • Richly coloured leaf undersides • Upright, sculptural growth • Distinctive collector-style houseplant • Best in bright, indirect light

Overview

Begonia 'Cracklin Rosie' is an unusual foliage begonia grown for its richly patterned leaves. The wavy foliage develops a deep bronze tone scattered with prominent pink markings, while the darker undersides add further colour when the leaves are viewed from different angles.

Its upright growth and bold leaf pattern make it an excellent feature for a bright shelf, plant stand or grouped indoor display. Good light helps maintain the strongest foliage colour, but the plant should be protected from harsh direct sun through glass.

Indoor Placement

Place in bright, indirect light, close enough to a window to support healthy, well-coloured growth but away from strong midday sun. Lower light may lead to weaker growth and less distinct colouring.

A bright bathroom or kitchen can provide useful humidity, provided there is adequate natural light. In living rooms or bedrooms, keep the plant away from radiators, fireplaces, cold draughts and frequently opened exterior doors.

Growing Guide

Water when the upper layer of compost begins to feel slightly dry. Moisten the root ball thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain from the pot. Avoid leaving the plant standing in water or allowing the compost to remain saturated.

Aim for steady moisture rather than alternating between very wet and completely dry compost. Water less frequently during winter, when lower light and cooler conditions slow growth.

Feed during active growth with a balanced houseplant fertiliser, diluted and applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Seasonal Care

Remove damaged or ageing leaves cleanly at the base. Growing tips can be lightly pinched if needed to encourage a fuller, more branched plant.

Moderate household humidity is beneficial, but avoid keeping the leaves continuously wet. Good airflow around the plant helps reduce the risk of foliage problems.

Good to Know

Begonias prefer stable indoor conditions and may react to sudden changes in temperature, light or watering. Brown leaf edges can indicate dry air, inconsistent watering or exposure to direct heat.
