Indoor Placement
Place in bright, indirect light, away from strong sun through glass. Too much direct sunlight may fade or scorch the foliage, while very low light can weaken growth and reduce leaf colour.
A bright bathroom or kitchen can provide useful humidity, provided the room has adequate natural light. In living rooms or bedrooms, keep the plant away from radiators, fireplaces, cold draughts and frequently opened exterior doors.
Growing Guide
Keep the compost relatively evenly moist without leaving it saturated. Water when the surface begins to feel slightly dry, then allow excess water to drain fully.
Calatheas can react to minerals in hard tap water, sometimes developing brown leaf tips. Rainwater or filtered water may be helpful where practical. Water less frequently during winter, adjusting care to the rate at which the compost dries.
Maintain moderate to high humidity around the foliage, but avoid leaving the leaves constantly wet. Stable warmth and good airflow support healthy growth.
Good to Know
Many plants sold as Calathea are now botanically classified within the genus Goeppertia. This mixed product may include different species and cultivars, so foliage colour, pattern, mature dimensions and detailed care requirements may vary slightly.
Leaves may lift or fold as light levels change during the day. This natural movement is characteristic of many plants in the prayer plant family.
